Minnesota is a state in the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and northern regions of the United States. Minnesota was admitted as the 32nd U.S. state on May 11, 1858, created from the eastern half of the Minnesota Territory. The state has many lakes, and is known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”. Its official motto is L’Étoile du Nord.

Islamic University of Minnesota holds classes in several different parts of the Twin Cities Metro area, a world class metropolis, providing students a variety of opportunities for additional cultural, social, and academic activities and growth. The Mall of America, one of the largest shopping centers in the world is located just a few miles south of the Minneapolis city center. The Minnesota Zoo, the Como Arboretum, and the Science Museum of Minnesota, are located 15 minutes away from downtown. Additionally, students can visit the hundreds of lakes that are situated within the metro area for both summer and winter activities. Also, in the heart of Minneapolis sits the largest all Muslim SOUQ at the Karmel Shopping Mall; with hundreds of shops displaying merchandise from all over the Muslim world and hosting ethnic foods from Africa and the Middle East.
